Hilary comes from a musical background. Her grandfather was a singer and clarinet-player, her uncle an organist and there was always music playing in her parental home. She became actively engaged with music herself at secondary school: 'Dartington Hall' in Devon, England, starting to sing and play the piano and flute at thirteen. She made her debut as a soprano soloist at eighteen, singing Händel's Messiah and went on to study singing and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London with  Marjorie Thomas, Flora Nielsen and John Carol-Case, Rex Stephens, Clara Taylor and Alexander Kelly.

Hilary is an experienced pianist, accompanist and piano teacher. She gives individual half-hourly/ hourly piano lessons to both children and adults, either to encourage and develop musicality at an early age, give the professional help needed for exams or to smooth the path for those wishing to get back to piano playing later on in life.

Also, throughout her career as a teacher, Hilary has always  accompanied all her students and, furthermore, combining her musical skills, has provided and continues to provide chamber-music coaching to singers and pianists.
